Celebrate women in research and the networks that sustain them

Abstract
An editorial on the importance of supporting women in STEM fields.
As we mark International Women's Day, it is crucial to not only celebrate the achievements of women in science but also to critically examine the structures that support—or hinder—their progress.
The Power of Networks
Research consistently shows that strong professional networks are vital for career advancement in STEM. However, women often face systemic barriers to accessing these networks, which are frequently dominated by men.
We must actively foster inclusive environments where women can connect, collaborate, and mentor one another. Initiatives like the Association for Women in Science (AWIS) play a critical role in providing these platforms.
Addressing the Leaky Pipeline
Despite increasing numbers of women entering STEM fields at the undergraduate level, we continue to see a significant drop-off at higher career stages. Addressing this "leaky pipeline" requires systemic changes, including better family leave policies, transparent promotion criteria, and active efforts to combat implicit bias.
